Following the success of last year’s Mela, we
welcome back this free, all day event featuring live music, dance,
workshops and stalls, promising a great day out for the whole
family. The Mela is a fantastic and vibrant event where you can see
talented local performers share the stage with world class acts. In
the evening we are pleased to welcome Kasbiah
Knights and Kissmet to the stage fresh
from playing Glastonbury.
Kissmet are an east west band
at the Forefront of the British Asian Fusion Scene, Kissmet combine
elements of Bhangra, Rock and classical Indidan Raags to create a
truly unique blend of ‘grass roots’ Anglo Indian Music. Fronted by
two Uk born Sikh brothers, they are developing a safe platform for
all to walk upon regardless of creed, colour or religion.

They have performed at over 200 International
Festivals including Glastonbury, The Olinkan World Music Festival
Mexico, Ireland’s Festival of Cultures, The World Villge Festival
Finland, The Orange World Music Festival Poland, The Larmer Tree
Festival in the UK, Electric Picnic Ireland and Edinburgh’s
International Hogmanay Celebrations.
Ron and younger brother Buz singh originated
Kissmet in the latter part of the century. Two Uk born Sikh
brothers, they had a strong allegiance to Bhangra but grew up with
the modern sounds of the British guitar scene. Inspired by both,
they started fusing Pubjabi and English lyrics as well as Bhangra
and rock.
The brothers grew up in a mulciultural city
and were inspired by the cultures and sounds they saw around them.
Completely unique in their performance they experiment with
language fusion in their music as well as instrumental fusion. All
combine to create the truly original Kissmet.
